Thanks to an apparent dispute between Books-A-Million and Wizards of the Coast–the publishers of Dungeons & Dragons–my friends and I were able to pick up a copy of Players Handbook 2 about a week before the official release date. Score another one for the losing team!

I’m expecting my copy from Amazon any day now, but getting a copy to browse early helps satiate my bardic knowledge hunger.

In summary, PHB2 is a book full of new races, classes, and other options for creating new characters to play. We had actually just started a new game, but with our new unexpected bounty we all found something that made us forget about our characters from the night before and roll us something new. Gabe’s half-elf Warlord/Wizard became a Bard (Gabe has been trying to make his own Bard substitutes for months), Jessica’s tiefling Ranger became a chaos Sorceror, and my human Warlock took a complete turn in the gene pool and class role as a half-orc Warden (a primal defender with secondary striker/controller tendencies, of which I’m favoring the controller side).

I love everything I’ve read so far, and I honestly would love to roll up each of the new possible race/class combos, including the new deva and goliaths and the returning shifters and gnomes (who are actually much cooler this edition), and I’m curious to see what kind of mayhem a barbarian can do and how the new druid plays out. Moreso, it makes me want to revisit some of the other races from PHB1 with some of the new racial paragon paths (finally, an answer for my burning question about dragonborn with wings).

If you play, pick it up. If you don’t, you should definately consider 4th edition D&D as the one to release your inner antisocial, introverted, misunderstood, awkward loner and climb into the metaphorical mother’s basement of good, all-American (with plenty of mythos ripped off from every ancient civilization and eastern philosophy) fantasy worlds and amateur theatre-level storytelling.

Oh, and before I forget… REALLY looking forward to the iPhone 3.0 software tomorrow. Setting my browser to refresh mode with my trigger finger on F5–set to stun.

Watchmen, RE5, and bears. Oh my!

I’ve been a fan of comics for most of my life and read Watchmen several years ago. It’s definately one of my favorite comics, although I was very skeptical of a movie based on the work. I wanted to wait for the theatre crowds to die down before I attempted to see it, and I’m wondering if maybe that’s what everyone else had in mind.

Turns out that the movie has dropped to #2 already (behind Witch Mountain of all things) and thus far failed to make its budget back. David Hayter (one of the screen writers on the film–and Solid Snake for those cool fans out there that know what that means) is even begging people to go see it again.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t seen it to pass judgment myself. I’ve heard the good. I’ve heard the bad. I’ve seen the Saturday morning cartoon parody. I’m ready to see the unfilmable movie already!

But before I do, I must mention something else dear to my heart: Resident Evil. With RE5 released just a few days ago (which is enough time for some people I know to have already beaten it), I’ve been dying to jump into some hot Chris/Sheva co-op action! However, my roommate’s 360 has suffered its second red ring of death and needs to be sent back to MicroSoft for another replacement.

I don’t own a 360 myself because I’m too broke to pay good money for something that may die unexpectedly at any time without good cause or reason. I am considering breaking down and buying the red 360 Elite Resident Evil 5 bundle; but I worry that if my ‘Box suffers the same fate as so many before it, will it only be replaced with an everyday white model when I get it back?

Sadly, unless I decide to blow money I don’t have, I’m stuck waiting for my roommate to mail his huge plastic box of useless parts.

As me and my friends are leaving our local gaming store, I remember why I shop Amazon. The prices are too high (even by rpg book standards), the workers are unfriendly, the customers themselves are usually jerks, and the owners have started using the store more as a convenience store than gaming/comics. The store is littered with imported Korean videos, swords, posters, pornography of varying kinds, and cardboard boxes of trading cards. It sounds fun, I know, but the grimy environs and price gouging make staying at home and browsing my bookmarked budget sites and monitoring my torrents and p2p more appealing.

I’ve never liked social sites. I am a professional message board troll. I shy away from other people on online games. I generally won’t even let a single word slip from my fingers in a chat room. So why would I ever sign up for a blog?

I don’t know. Never turn away free food?

And, no, I didn’t honestly think my original idea for a blog title–”sentfrommyiphone”–would be available (or original).

I also didn’t believe that my second choice–”myiphonesent”–was any more original (and I’m somewhat surprised it was available).

Sad point is, I’ve put little effort into this thought process. I have an iPhone. It has a wordpress app. I am sending written word through the connection of my iPhone and the wordpress app. Sent from my iPhone.

How very clever I must be!
